This plate is used to distribute electromagnetic waves inside the microwave oven but also to protect the internal elements of the appliance. If the MICA plate of your microwave has food residue on it, it may spark. It is advisable to gently clean this element with a damp sponge slightly soaked in soapy water. Leave the microwave door open to dry. If sparking persists even after cleaning the MICA plate, you should check it for damage. Cracks, holes or burns can cause persistent sparking.
